In society, people often look up to our government to provide honourable and righteous justice that upholds our basic human rights .Through the analysis of dystopian texts including 1984 written by George Orwell, Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut Jr, and the film V for Vendetta directed by James Mcteigue, the concept of a totalitarian government that exerts control over to the senses is explored throughout all these texts. The stripping of privacy and freedom demonstrates this control over the mass of society. The demonization of the enemy through propaganda creates fear in society of the enemy thus allowing the government to sustain control. The government creates an environment where its citizens understand that the slightest demonstration of rebellion which could be as sma ll as a â€Å"nervous tic† or an â€Å"unconscious look of anxiety† that could lead to the vaporization of an individual. The angst of looking anything but in complete admiration of Big Brother leads citizens into a state of constant panic of watching what they do. The government uses this to control their people however they decide as a result of nobody being able to rebel the lack of privacy or freedom that the government provides. Similarly, the use of handicaps in Harrison Bergeron written by Kurt Vonnegut Jr, suppresses individual citizens which allows the government the ability to enforce absolute control among its citizens. Handicaps are used by the government to suppress any physical or mental trait of a person that is above average. In the case of George Bergeron, his â€Å"Intelligence was way above normal [so he is given] a little mental handicap radio†(Vonnegut 1) which scrambles his thoughts and prevents him from â€Å"taking unfair advantage of h is brains† (Vonnegut 1).
